Things I've learned so far about Thailand so far. Thailand is called "the land of smiles." Everyone here is so nice and they smile at you. There's like ten thousand 7-11 convenience stores. They are not like the ones in the United States, they have everything like a mini supermarket. People like to name their kids nicknames. It can be a fruit like "apple" or colors like "red" or "orange." Another popular one is "tɛɛŋmoo” (แตงโม), which means watermelon, Chomphûu” (ชมพู่), meaning rose apple, or taan” (ตาล) – sugar palm
The music lessons started today! All of the children were so smart and caught on the ukulele so fast. I was teaching them basic G, C, Em and D chords. We did "How great is our God." They taught me the song back in Thai which was amazing. I was trying my best to learn the Thai language and be able to teach the kids the song in english and Thai. After the class we got to play with the children in the playground and basketball court.
In the evening, my amazing host brought me to a soccer game. In Thailand, it would suddenly rain with a huge downpour for about 20 minutes, and then it would just stop. Then it might happen again in another few hours. At the soccer game, I got to meet a lot of missionaries from all over the world. It was pretty amazing. It's like networking for the kingdom of God.
We ended the night with authentic Thai street food and tom yum gong soup noodles. Keep these children in your prayers as we continue the music lessons this week!
